What is a multi lumen switch? - Definition and merits!
The amendable thing about lighting is that the required light output greatly depends on the characteristics of an individual application. How convenient would it then be, if you have the option to pick the requested light output while installing! With LED lighting this question has been put to practice with an easy to use multi-lumen switch. In this blog, we gladly give you the ins and outs of this amazing feature.

What does multi-lumen refer to?
The lumen value of a LED bulb or LED fixture indicates how vividly the light source illuminates. This can be subtle (accent lighting) or sufficient to brightly illuminate an entire room or a specific area. With multi-lumen, you have the option of lighting a space with several light outputs. Therefore, utilisation of the same lighting enables you to match the output to the measurements and/or purpose of every indoor and outdoor area without question. This renders multi lumen lighting the ideal solution for replacement and stock objectives.

A multi lumen switch can be shown in different ways!
A lumen switch often displays wattages on the fixture or light source, instead of a light output in lumens. By changing the wattage, you select the light output you want. Another possibility is the presence of a dipswitch, which has several on/off switches to create the right light output setting. These switches are numbered: 1, 2, 3 ...
What are the merits of a multi lumen switch?
Let's start by saying that the flexible nature of multi-lumen fixtures is very useful for not being stuck with a manufacturer-set light output. This allows you to decide on the spot what the right or required light output is, all by setting the switch on the fixture to the right mode. Sounds good right? However, there are more advantages to mention for:
Installers ...
LED lighting with a multi lumen switch enables installers to achieve:
- Durable stock management; 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 solutions.
- Easy alignment of light in business' premises.
As an installer you come across many different lighting projects that each have their own specifics. Buildings can have:
- Standard and/or high ceilings heights.
- Little and/or much incidence of natural daylight.
- Multi purpose: (precision) workspaces and/or communal areas.
Facility managers and private users ...
The main achievement of multi-lumen is that energy consumption is optimally managed. Why? LED already has an energy-efficient nature by itself, but with the right light output, you optimize it even more. Fact: The brighter the light, the more energy it consumes.
Other advantages you might come across:
- If you stash stock, it will fit into various types of spaces.
- The light output is not fixed / can be set accordingly.
- Your light output is flexible without a dimmer being required.

Rather switch between warmer and cooler light colours? Pick CCT or tunable white!
CCT (switch; fixed Kelvin values) and tunable white (rotary knob; all Kelvin values between ...K and ...K) also enable you to match the light with the specifics of a certain environment. Only difference being that the flexible element is light colour instead of light output. You can read all about it in this blog: What are tunable white and CCT LEDs?
