The colour code is a combination of colour rendering (CRI) and light colour (Kelvin). The first number indicates the colour rendering (1 = very poor colour rendering, 9 = maximum colour fastness). The second and third number contains the light colour. Example: the colour code 830 consists of good colour rendering (8) and warm white light (3000K).
The IP value indicates the degree of protection against the ingress of moisture and dust. The 1st digit (0 = not protected until 6 = completely dustproof) indicates the protection against dust. The 2nd digit (0 = not protected until 8 = protected against immersion) indicates the protection against water. Products with an IP44 rating are splashproof and products with an IP65 rating or higher are (completely) dustproof and waterproof.

How many built-in LED spotlights per square metre?
When you determine how many built-in LED spotlights you need to install, you should always look at the respective lumen value of the products. Furthermore, not all rooms require the same lumen values. In the kitchen, for example, we recommend 300 to 400 lumens per square metre (lux). If your desired LED recessed spotlight has 400 lumens, you should use one spotlight per square metre accordingly.
How do I change the socket in a recessed LED spotlight?
You can buy built-in LED spotlights both with and without integrated bulbs. If you decide on the second variant, you will only receive the fixture. In this case, you must purchase a bulb separately. It is important to pay attention to the base. Built-in LED spotlights usually have a GU10 base. The bulb must also have such a base so that it fits into the fixture without any problems. If you only need to replace the socket in a LED recessed spotlight, you must remove the old GU10 spotlight from the fixture. Then slide the new GU10 spotlight into the housing and do a quarter turn.
Do built-in LED spotlights need a transformer?
Depending on the product, built-in LED spotlights need a transformer. Some spotlights already come with an integrated transformer; these products can be connected directly to the mains. How to install a built-in LED spotlight correctly?
Built-in LED spotlights can be installed very quickly. You don't have to be a professional to do it. The most important thing is that you have a suspended ceiling in which the cables can disappear.
- Cut out the holes for the spotlights into the ceiling with the right size saw. This step is not necessary if you are replacing your halogen spotlight with an LED alternative.
- Switch off the power and remove the fuse.
- Place the LED bulb in the socket and fold the tension springs upwards.
- Slide the built-in LED spotlight into the corresponding hole in the ceiling.
- Switch the power back on and start saving energy and money immediately.
How to find the right built-in LED spotlight?
In addition to the suitable base, the beam angle of the built-in LED spotlight also plays an important role. This depends on its intended use, so you should consider where you want to mount your new spotlight before you buy it. As a rule of thumb, if you want to illuminate a specific object, such as a sculpture or a picture, you need a small beam angle. However, if you want to illuminate an entire room with recessed LED spotlights, you should go for products with a large beam angle. Do you need a recessed LED spotlight for outdoors? If you want to illuminate your outdoor area with built-in LED spotlights, you should definitely pay attention to the protection class. We recommend products with IP65. This protection level signals to you that the product is dust-proof and protected against contact as well as against water jets from any angle. Frost and water penetration can, therefore, not harm the spot.

If you are still using conventional halogen spots, it is high time to replace them with modern LED recessed spotlights! You will immediately benefit from energy savings of up to 80 %. This not only reduces your electricity costs, but also your CO² consumption. LED recessed spotlights are also recyclable because they do not contain any toxic substances. Halogen spots, on the other hand, may no longer be produced in Europe since 2018 due to their poor energy balance.
