Industry Lighting
Which LED lighting is suitable for an industrial hall, factory, shed or warehouse?
Here, we can make a division between various luminaires, each with its own characteristics and appearance. In terms of type of lighting, we are talking about:
There are also various options when it comes to lighting dimming, including via DALI. This is an innovative and interesting system for large spaces such as production and factory halls, as you have the possibility to group or separate a number of luminaires, with the DALI interface remembering the settings. You can therefore create multiple lighting scenarios in a room. It also manages all lighting status information, including automatic on/off switches and light intensity. Want to know more about DALI? Why does ceiling height play an important role in choosing the right luminaires?
This is because it requires lighting with a high light output, or; the amount of lumens. Here we can take as a starting point that luminaires with around 12,500 lumens are best suited to ceilings 4 to 6 metres high. And at even greater heights (7 to 14 metres), products from 19,000 lumens or higher are on the best option. In this category, we have therefore selected several LED solutions for you that actually have this high light output. Pay close attention to this when buying the right product online. Not decided? What are the benefits of energy-efficient and sustainable lighting for industry?
First of all, energy/electricity costs go down significantly. And this is partly because LED lighting is over 70% more economical, compared to conventional lighting such as gas discharge bulbs or fluorescent tubes. In addition, LED lasts much longer. Luminaires that last for more than 100,000 burning hours are no exception these days. This means that with an average of 80 burning hours per week (production environment), the lighting can last for no less than 25 years! And that in turn has a positive effect on your maintenance and replacement costs. Normally you would have to do this after a few years, but now it takes much longer. Furthermore, it gives a company a greener character and LED is a perfect way to make premises more sustainable, while also contributing to a cleaner world.
Can the existing luminaires remain intact when switching to industrial LED lighting?
Yes you can, when you want to install LED light lines, for example. A great example of this is the Noxion LED EasyTrunk fixture. This allows you to leave the current trunking system completely intact. Furthermore, these A-brand Noxion light lines are compatible with RIDI VLG-T5, TRILUX T5E, ZUM Tecton, TTX200, TTX400, VEKO PNR and Siteco-Dus. Just click the new luminaire into the current rails and you're done. You can also change the position of the luminaires in the rails in the interim, so you are also very flexible.
In which case is it smart to choose LED luminaires with a motion sensor?
The premise of LED lighting with a sensor is that it does not need to be on constantly, saving an awful lot of energy. Only when movement is detected in a room does the lighting come on at 100% strength. With some luminaires, you can optionally set the product to burn at a lower intensity (e.g. 20%) or not at all. Are there places in a company where there is not constant activity or movement during the day? Then LED sensor lighting is suitable there. Think, for example, of a storage hall where products are occasionally loaded into racks or need to be picked. On the other hand, you might think of the toilet block, canteen or corridors.
Why does the right Industrial LED lighting have a positive impact on employee productivity and concentration?
This has mainly to do with the colour temperature of the light. In that respect, we can go both ways. After all, luminaires with cool white light (4000K) emit light that can be described as very fresh and natural. As a result, employees are able to concentrate for longer during work and do not get tired as quickly. This light colour also has a positive influence on our day and night rhythms.
Is there a room where little or no daylight enters during the day and/or where there are no windows? Then you might also consider hanging luminaires in the light colour daylight white (6500K). This specification also comes in handy when details in the industrial or production hall are very important. This way, the person at work has a good view of what they are doing and therefore fewer errors occur during the production or work process.
What colour temperature do I choose for which room?
For rooms where work is being carried out, sufficient and bright light is definitely most relevant. As already described above, then (depending on the layout, type of products and to what extent details are important) 4000K or 6500K is the best option. But a factory hall or industrial environment naturally includes more areas, both indoors and outdoors. In general areas such as corridors, changing rooms, washrooms, the entrance hall, canteen, etc., a softer light is fine (3000K). Incidentally, other bulbs or luminaires can be used in these areas, such as wall bulbs, ceiling bulbs, E27 bulbs, recessed spotlights or downlights. If an office area belongs to the production hall, 4000 Kelvin is the best choice. Click here to read more about applying the right office lighting. As for outdoor lighting, 3000 Kelvin (as general lighting) or 4000 Kelvin (for sufficient zich and promoting safety) is recommended.
When is it important for industrial lighting to be resistant to water-dust and vandalism?
Firstly, when it comes to outdoor lighting, which is fully exposed to bad weather (rain, hail, etc.) and is therefore outdoors. On the other hand, waterproof lighting is a realistic choice when the space is not completely sealed, such as a warehouse or storage area where there are objects that may get wet. And further, when the room is damp. Here, you can think of an abattoir, underground storage or simply an area where water is used.
Products rated IP65 or higher are dust- and waterproof.
Products with an IK08 rating or higher are vandal-proof.
Have you also thought about luminaires with emergency lighting? If there is a fire or short circuit, these lights (depending on the duration of the emergency unit) will stay on for several hours. This promotes safety!
