GY6.35 LED Bulbs
GY6.35: Dimensions and socket of the LED bulbs
When we speak of the lampholder, we mean the interface into which a bulb is inserted so that it is connected to the electrical circuit. The base, in turn, provides information about the dimensions and the type of connection. The socket designation "GY6.35" is made up of two letters and a number. The "G" stands for the material of the original halogen bulbs: glass. The 6.35 in turn stands for the distance between the two pins: This is exactly 6.35 millimetres.
Since all pin-base bulbs are marked with such a value, you can always deduce exactly which one you need. Other designations are, for example, G9 or G4.
Special dimensions of GY6.35 LED bulbs
If you want to replace an ordinary halogen pin-base bulb with an LED, in the case of GY6.35 you must first note that these require a transformer. You probably already have one installed, but for halogens. It is possible that the power (watts) of your new GY6.35 LED bulbs will not reach the minimum load of your old transformer because the bulbs are so efficient. Therefore, check the minimum load and the maximum load of your installed transformer and, if in doubt, purchase a new one from our halogen/LED transformer category.
You should also note that LED bulbs are a little larger than ordinary halogens. This is because they have more technology built in, which requires a certain amount of space. Therefore, before buying, always check the dimensions of the respective bulb and whether it fits into your area of application.
In which application areas are GY6.35 LED bulbs used?
Due to their high beam angles, the bulbs are particularly suitable for the basic lighting of a room or area. For this purpose, the bulbs are often mounted at regular intervals on ceilings to create uniform illumination.
Due to their low protection class, GY6.35 LED bulbs are usually only suitable for indoor spaces where there is no moisture. Unless, of course, you combine them with a waterproof lampholder.
