A terrace or a patio are the perfect places to enjoy warm summer evenings with your family, friends or simply in the company of a good book. However, in order to enjoy any of these special moments you need a light both functional and decorative, able to create a cozy and intimate ambience that will help you relax and unwind from the daily routine.

An elegant interplay of lights and shades for a suggestive ambience

While temperatures start increasing, a terrace can be a real life-saving place where to continue an evening, taste flavourful nibbles and enjoy a cool summer breeze. In order to do so, though, it is essential to create the perfect atmosphere and highlight the natural beauty of this space by carefully choosing the most adequate lights.

To this extent, for general lighting purposes it is advisable to install either a ceiling or wall light source that can offer the basic light need. A bottom-up directional light, on the other hand, will help enhancing both architectural or decorative designs, such as a pond, plant or tree. Finally, soft mood lights around a table, bench or sofa can help to create a relaxing and dreamy atmosphere.

Five handy tips for a gorgeous terrace

  1. Check the IP value. Remember to check the protection index of your luminaries. Outdoor lamps must have an IP value of at least 44. In the specifications of each single product you can find a reference to it.

  2. Choose a warm light for a cozy ambience (2700K). A warm colour temperature (measured in kelvin) tends to a yellowish colour, close to the light emitted by the old incandescent light bulbs. This light colour will help you unbend under a suffused and enveloping light.

  3. Have a look at the brightness of your light sources. A bright light is not recommendable as it can result in disturbing the sight and the harmony of the outdoor space. The light intensity is measured in lumen.

  4. Always prefer sensor lighting. Lights with motion sensors will not only offer automatic instant light as soon as a movement is detected but these fixtures will also ensure high energy savings on energy bills at the end of the month.

  5. Enjoy the freedom of a flexible light. Dimmable lights will allow you to set the brightness of the light according to your needs.

A smart and pro-environment choice

Solar lighting is an excellent choice not only from the economic point of view but also from the environmental one. Indeed, solar power is a reliable and renewable source of energy that we can take advantage of with a small initial investment. By doing so, we will be able to enjoy free light all over the product life cycle. More specifically, our solar outdoor lamps are very safe and versatile as they can be installed wherever we want in gardens, terraces or entrances very easily, without electrical wires around. A word of caution for light pollution

The negative effects of bright lights are an important aspect to be considered. Not only the ambience can be spoiled but strong lights can also cause discomfort to neighbours and disorientate animals. Therefore, when floodlights are installed it is important to avoid having a bright light shining into a neighbours’ window. Indeed, the brightness of light sources must be enough to enjoy the evening, but not excessive in order to admire the starry sky.
