Are LEDtubes safe?
"What about the safety of LED tubes? What happens when they break? In this blog we tell you all about it."
First of all what is the safety of the normal fluorescent tube?
Normal fluorescent are made of glass and filled with a low-pressure mercury-gas-discharge that uses fluorescence to produce visible light. An electric current in the gas excites mercury vapor, which produces short-wave ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor coating on the inside of the lamp to glow. Since a TL tube is made of glass and therefore easily to break the gas can escape which can be harmful.
But what about the safety of LED?
First of all the LED tubes are made of a Polycarbonate cover which means they are unbreakable. +1 for LED! The tubes - whether it’s a LED or not - are not explosion proof, of course if your fixture is explosion proof so are the tubes. Second, since the technology of LED there is no more gas in the tubes, which is good for the environment and our health.
